What’s the Hype Around Goji Berries?

Goji berries are the most popular and trending berries this season. They are an ancient Chinese medicinal plant and has been known to confer multiple health benefits. They are also called as wolfberries and have a sweet, slightly sour taste. They mostly come in the dried form similar to raisins.

Goji Berries are rich in antioxidant vitamins and minerals like zinc and iron. They are also packed with high fiber content and surprisingly contain the eight essential amino acids ensuring a good amount of protein as well.

Goji berries have various health benefits, they primarily boost immunity and prevent infection. Many individuals use goji berries to treat eyes, liver, and kidney issues because of their powerful antioxidant effect. Their antioxidant properties can be attributed to the presence of zeaxanthin which is also responsible for its bright and vibrant colour.

They also aid in weight loss. Their high fiber content helps promote satiety and they are healthy and tasty at the same time. They are also low in calories as well as sugars and make a better alternative to other dried fruits. They can be consumed as a light snack or can be added to yogurt and salads.

Goji berries also help maintain blood sugar homeostasis. They can potentially lower blood sugar, improve sugar tolerance and alleviate insulin resistance. Goji Berries also help maintain the health of the pancreatic beta cells which produce insulin.

Goji berries also have a very strong association with improving fertility in men.
