Tips on How to maintain weight during Festive Season

Festival Season is something that goes on throughout the year but so does your health meter and fitness check! Make sure you are not compromising with your health while indulging in the festival delicacies by practicing these easy tips:

– Do not Skip Meals: This mantra is to be followed throughout the year and you need to be more careful about it during festivities. Skipping meals would increase the risk of over-eating due to longer gaps and increased hunger.

-Eat before stepping out: The best way to eat less at a get together or a party is to eat well before the festivities begin. It is advised to eat at home itself before stepping out. Eating something healthy and nutritious before a big meal prevents bloating issues as well.

-The Choice of Your beverage: It may seem insignificant but it’s definitely the first step towards discourse. Its best to stick with a simple glass of water, lemonade a fresh fruit juice or coconut water! Try to avoid cocktails and mocktails as they are high in calories and added sugars.

-The portion is key: Limit your intake of oily and fried foods. It is not possible to completely avoid them and in such a case what one can do in order to preserve the nutrient quality is to avoid re-using the oil. Also frying should be done in traditional oils and not the processed alternatives.

-Festivals are incomplete without sweets; therefore, it is best to consume homemade traditional sweets using local ingredients and comparatively better alternatives of sugar like jaggery and honey. Fruits and dry fruits like dates, apricots and anjeers are healthier choices.

-Before jumping on the main course load up on veggies or starters. In such a case you can completely knock of the main menu and stick to starters and a light desert.

-Give and get healthy gifts: It’s the best way to not only encourage others to be healthy but you yourself also being motivated to do your best where health and happiness is considered.Stick to the 80-20 rule: Try to eat correctly 80% of the time. Be cautious about the quality and quantity of the food you pick at least 80% of the time. 20% can then be foregone as indulgence.

-Less is More: When it comes to festival indulgence always remember, less is definitely more. Whether you are on the catering side or the receiving end.

-Focus on socializing and meeting relatives and friends. Spread joy, happiness, and care not calories!
