Do you Really need Detox?

If rejuvenation had a trendy name alternative, it would be detox. Quite literally detox means getting rid of the toxins. And toxins can be anything dangerous that can cause harm to the body, especially if sustained for a long time. The human body has a well-equipped detoxification system that eliminates hazardous substances. However, there are few ways to enhance your body’s detoxification system by adopting basic principles and leading a disciplined life but nowadays we hear detox in reference to a new temporary lifestyle modification. How often do we hear people saying they are going through or planning to follow a detox; The context here may not always be a long-term lifestyle enhancement plan but more of a quick fix to feel fresh and ready to start over.

The question however is, do we really need a Detox?

The answer to this question straight up would be NO. Our body has a very well-designed natural detoxification system. Detox diets chosen and followed for a temporary span of time claim to cleanse your blood, improve circulation, enhance organ function and eliminate toxin build-up and residues and also provide nutrients. They are promoted as a quick fix and integral part of weight management programs and disease-friendly diets. However, detox when only promoted with respect to your diet has limited viability. This is because any kind of long-term health journey is a mixture of nourishing and nutrient-rich meals which have natural antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and ingredients that would help improve the body’s detoxifying system.  Some detox diets do help with short-term weight loss but more studies are required to validate it. Yes, it is a good way to give your body a break from the constant stresses it faces when there is poor nutrition along with physical inactivity, but the true benefit of a detox diet can only be worthy if they last longer. This is only possible when they are practiced alongside basic healthy nutrition and regular exercise.

More so only depending on a detox plan does not result in healthy weight loss. A detox plan can be a part of your overall weight loss journey but does not have enough support to work wonders alone.
