The normal secretion of hormones is critically important for the efficient functioning of the different body systems and also the normal health management. The endocrine system which controls and manages these hormones is very sensitive to external agents and signals. One of the primary external agents that can influence hormones is food.

A healthy lifestyle and dietary pattern surely have a positive influence on hormonal health however, the contrary is equally true as well.

The frequent use of stimulants such as coffee and depressants like alcohol can have an altering effect on hormonal function.

Consuming a lot of sodium or a diet which is rich in highly processed foods and which have added salts, artificial ingredients and preservatives can have a negative impact on the hormonal balance which can eventually interfere with metabolic processes which will affect the health of the individual, especially the blood pressure and the heart function.

The consumption of excess sugars that are often also present under hidden names on the nutrition label can discouraging influence on hormone functionality.

The build-up of sugars and their subsequent accumulation as fat in the body can result in an increased risk of developing insulin resistance which is the primary contributing factor for diabetes and even leptin resistance leading to obesity, polycystic ovarian syndrome- hormonal imbalance and a number of other non-communicable disease risk. Skipping meals and then overeating dietary patterns stimulate cortisol production which also contributes to health issues.
